LA MAGOUILLECOMPANY
Created in 2008, La Magouille is a french company based in Normandy. It focuses its project around the creation of shows related to the theater arts where actor is in dialogue with puppet. With a beautiful complicity, Solène Briquet and Cécile Lemaitre think artistically the project of the company La Magouille.
The manipulation is always at sight. The manipulation techniques are chosen according to the dramaturgical meaning that this brings to the project. They start from writers’ texts and also from improvisation. They regularly collaborate with artists from other disciplines. Their work applies to different audiences (all ages, adults, seniors, school children, teens ...). In 2016, La Magouille begins a cycle of creations on different formats related to its work of territory:
Eros en bref (2016) three small solo forms of 30min of the love literature (Shakespeare, Lawrence, Mitchell).
Blanc comme Neige (2017), for 3-8 years old, speactators are in the universe of Great North.
Gaston La Banane (2019), a speechless show, in a burlesque and poetic universe to lift the taboo of loneliness at the end of life.
Ouïte by Julie Aminthe (2020), a project around the relationship to the body, where desire arises, between a nurse’s aide and several old people.

Synopsis
SPEECHLESS SOLO FOR A PUPPET
“We are what you’re going to be” skeletons say in the dance of death. We all share the same condition : you come to life only if you die, and vice versa.
Mr Gaston is no longer as he used to be in his youth. Boredom and loneliness have settled in his bedroom. His life has become tasteless. One day, he feels Death lurking around. With a new ardour which reminds him of his youth, he challenges himself to escape it.
The specificity of this show is that the main character is a human size puppet, and that the puppeteer is playing the part of Death, trying to kill him with a banana. We wish to present this solo as a burlesque and moving moment, so that people could laugh it away, instead of crying, and question the issue of free will at the end of life.
Because the condition of the puppet is also to go from being inanimate to being alive (or the illusion of life), we want to address this key subject for puppeteers, with distance, humor and poetry.
For the first time, the “La Magouille” company creates a speechless show to play almost everywhere.
